CO2 (Carbon Dioxide)

The CO2 laser is very actively absorbed in water and a moderate amount in hydroxyapatite. This wavelength is used for rapid surgical procedures, but cannot be delivered by an optic fiber in contact with tissue. Since it is absorbed by tooth structure, it is especially useful for cavity preparations and tooth surface hardening for caries resistance.
