Diode
The diode laser is absorbed readily into pigmented tissues.
Its laser energy is generated from solid state components that permit
smaller-sized units with less maintenance.
Ho:YAG (Holmium: Yttrium Aluminum Garnet)
The Ho:YAG laser's primary capability is absorption through
water. Blanched tissues and cartilaginous or fibrotic sites respond
readily to this treatment approach. This laser operates in a free-running
pulsed mode.
Er:YAG (Erbium: Yttrium Aluminum Garnet)
The Er:YAG laser is highly absorbed by both water and hydroxyapatite.
Thus, it can be used for cavity preparation in enamel and dentin,
caries (cavity) removal, and hardening of the enamel or dentin surface.
The Er:YAG is also useful in soft tissue surgery. Delivered through
an optic fiber or a hollow waveguide, it does require a water coolant
on tooth surfaces
