The Diagnodent is a diode laser that detects fluorescence
in anything at which it is aimed. When enamel becomes decalcified
(decays) the changed enamel will fluoresce. The diagnodent can thus
be employed as an early decay warning system that can “see”
into a tooth up to 2mm and detect changes well before a manually-employed
dental pick can find the cavity. Often, catching the decay at this
early stage will allow Dr. Dantini to treat the area using Air
