After the teeth are prepared, an impression of the tooth area is
taken and sent to a laboratory to fabricate the bridge. For this interim period
will place a 'temporary bridge' is placed on the prepared teeth to protect
them, provide the patient with functional teeth.
On the second appointment, the bridge is bonded or cemented to the
natural teeth. It is vital to take care of bridged teeth. The margins
between the bridge and the natural teeth are areas that are susceptible
to decay and must be kept clean. Bridge threaders should be used
to clean under the bridged area (called a pontic). Properly taken care of, bridges
can last 5 to 15 years, and sometimes even longer.
The cost of a bridge can range from $1,000 to $2,500 per tooth depending
on the number of teeth being replaced and the condition of the teeth
that will anchor the bridge. This procedure should only be used
in replacing one or two teeth on a single side. If a larger span
bridge is desired, please consult Dr. Dantini, as the procedure
is different and can cost more.
