Conventional
Fixed Bridge
A conventional fixed bridge is a tooth replacement
that is attached with cement to adjacent natural teeth. If one or
two teeth are missing on a single side, it can be the best method
of replacement provided the natural adjacent teeth are healthy and
the supporting structure (bone and gum tissue) are adequate.
The only drawback is that the natural teeth have to be prepared
to receive the bridge. This requires that 1.5 to 2 mm of tooth structure
be removed. If these teeth have had no restorations, it is difficult
to rationalize this removal from perfectly good teeth. In such cases,
an implant may be a better solution.
A fixed bridge takes usually two to three visits. The first visit
is just like that for creating a crown.
Dr. Dantini will numb the area and prepare the adjacent natural
teeth so that a solid tooth structure remains to support a porcelain
gold , or resin bridge.
A bridge must fit perfectly to prevent further decay and gum disease.
It must also restore the bite, prevent shifting of the teeth and
above all, look good. |
