For
most dentisits, repairing your tooth with a porcelain or full gold
crown will usually take two appointments.
On the first appointment, Dr. Dantini will numb the tooth and prepare
it by removing 1-2 millimeters of the natural crown until the weakened
portion of the tooth is removed and solid structure remains.
A crown must fit perfectly to prevent further decay and gum disease.
It must restore a patient's bite, prevent shifting of the teeth
and above all, look good.
After the tooth is prepared, an impression is
taken and sent to a laboratory for fabrication. For this interim period, Dr. Dantini will
place a 'temporary crown' on the prepared tooth to protect
it and provide a functional tooth that prevents the adjacent
and opposing teeth from moving while the crown is being fabricated.
