Crowns (Caps)

A crown is needed on a tooth when the tooth is weakened either by decay, a fracture or a very large restoration and it can not be restored to adequate strength or form by a directly placed filling.

Crowns can be made from a number of materials including:

• solid porcelain (CEREC)
• a metal shell (preferably a gold alloy) with porcelain baked on top
• a totally metal (gold) shell
• 100% resin (an especially hard plastic).
