The laser we use in an Nd:Yag made by Sunrise Technologies. It is a 3watt free running laser. The wavelength is in the near infrared and is commonly used in eye surgery and bulk tissue removal. Darkly stained, or red and inflammed tissue absorbe its energy the best.

The primary use for a laser is in soft tissue surgery. Some dentists can use it to aid in bleaching teeth; but, it is no more effective then the simpler and cheaper take home methods allthough it is much quicker............

At the lower energy settings local anesthetic often is not required.

MORE ABOUT LASERS

Cerec2 is a CAD/CIM machine that makes crowns, inlays, onlays from solid blocks of ceramic. Most of the time a crown can be made in one day and often during the same appointment. A very sophistacated infrared optical sensor takes the "impression" using parallax technique to obtain an accurate image of the prepared tooth. Then, the computer, with guidance from the operator, designs, and mills the crown or "filling".

MORE ABOUT CEREC2

Air abrasion

Air abraision is the newest concept in dentistry. It is the use of a highly controlled and precise mini-sandblasting unit. Gently and quickly tooth structure is removed, often without the need of lidocaine and without the noise of the drill.

The unit we have is the Sunrise Technologies Associate.

intra-oral

Our intra-oral camera is an acucam with a panasonic video printer. We use it for documentation and patient education.

dental lab

We have a very basic in house dental lab. Primerly it is used to trim and pour models, Adjust and polish crowns, bridges and dentures; and, make simple denture repairs.

phnaromic x-ray

Our Panoramic X-ray machine is a Yosida Kaycor 10 su model. It is useful in viewing wisdom teeth, Gross TMJ anatomy, and overall condition of the teeth and surrouding bone. Typicaly this maching is seen in oral surgeons and other specialists office's. We use it to provide a full diagnostic work up when needed.

digital radiography

Digital Radiography is our newest tool.It allows us to take x-rays with 1/3 the normal Radiation and read the x-ray within seconds instead of waiting up to 10 min for film. The unit we have is made by Dexis. The sensor is manufactured by Rockwell (the aerospace company). All the images are stored on our file server and the pcmcia card can be moved from one room to another.

nitrous oxide

Nitrous Oxide is available to all patients on request. We have a standard mobil unit by MDT/Mekesson, langhing gas, when administered properly, is useful Adjanet in relieving stress and making the dental experience more pleasurable. We like to monitor our patients with a pulse oxcimeter during Analegesia. This tells us the persons pulse rate and amount of oxygen in their blood.

    Bioterrorism References

The Following list was provided to me from Norwalk Hospital and was mailed to all attending staff members. I Felt that it was important enough to make avaliable to all on my web site.

  • American College of Physicians Web site with short written summaries addressing the medical aspects of bioterrorism.

  • Medical Management of Biological Casualties The U.S. Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases publishes this web site. It is basically a medical manual for medical personnel to use as a concise guide to medical prophylaxis and management of biological casualties.

  • CDC Bioterrorism Preparedness and Response This website, sponsored by the Center ofr Disease Control, provides information about chemical and biological agents, press releases, training, contacts, and other important information dealing with the public health aspects of bioterrorism.

  • Center for Civilian Biodefense Studies Sponsored by Johns Hopkins University, this website provides up-to-date information on the biological agents of greatest concern and explores ways to prevent and respond to their use on civilians. This site serves as a repository for relevant news, conferences, background reading, and other bioterrorism related resources.

  • Agency for Health Care Research and Quality (AHRQ) This website reports on the agency's support for assessing and improving the U.S. health care systems capacity to respond to possible incidents of bioterrorism. The $5 million initiative focuses on clinical preparedness of health care providers and health care systems, is part of a broad effort by U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and other Federal agencies against bioterrorism.

    What Is CEREC?

CEREC is a high-tech instrument that helps dentists restore damaged teeth.

CEREC stands for Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics.

    How Does CEREC Work?

First, the dentist prepares the damaged tooth by painting a thin layer

of reflective powder directly on the tooth's surface. Using a special

camera, the dentist then takes a picture of the tooth. No need to take a

messy impression and send it to the lab. The dentist works from this

photo, which is actually a pin-sharp optical impression of the tooth.

Computer aided design technology helps the dentist design the

restoration from the optical impression. The design is done chairside

on a color monitor. Patients can watch the dentist design the new

restoration right in front of their eyes!

Then computer aided manufacturing creates the restoration while the patient waits. The tooth is milled out of a block of ceramic material that matches the patient's tooth color. Computer aided manufacturing uses a high-speed diamond bur and a disk simultaneously to mill a precise restoration. The milling takes about 10 minutes. Finally, the dentist bonds the newly milled restoration to the tooth using an adhesive.

What Kinds of Procedures Can It Perform?

    Partial and full crowns

    Veneers

    All other single-tooth restorations

What Are the Advantages CEREC Offers?

    The dentist performs the restoration

in a single session, usually in less than one hour

No need for the dentist to make an

impression and send it to a lab

No return visits for the patient

The restoration is natural looking, as it is

made out of tooth-colored ceramic material

    Ceramic material is biocompatible,

    high-grade, anti-abrasive and

    plaque-resistant

    Metal-free--no silver-colored fillings

Allows dentist to save more of

    the healthy tooth

    Extremely precise

    Is This a New Technology?

No. CEREC has over a decade of clinical research and experience to support the technology. The manufacturer of CEREC has relied on user input and research to improve the product over this time. Over four million restorations have been performed worldwide. Only within the last several years has it been possible to create a full crown and the technology been within reach of most US dentists.

    crown.html 755 0 3 6130 7504500712 6031 Dentistinfo - Crown

A crown is the part of the tooth that you can see above the gums. If a dentist tells you 'Your tooth needs a crown' he is telling you is that your natural crown has broken or has been weakened and therefore a laboratory made crown or cover will be needed to restore your tooth. It may have been weakened by a fracture or crack in the tooth, an overly large silver filling, or having root canal therapy. Most crowns are made of either solid porcelain, a metal (preferably a gold alloy) shell and porcelain baked on top or a totally metal (gold) shell and, all resin (a special very hard type of plastic).

Repairing your tooth with a porcelain or full gold crown will usually take two appointments.

At the first appointment your dentist will numb the area and prepare the tooth by removing 1-2 millimeters of the natural crown away until the weakened portion of the tooth is removed and solid tooth structure remains making sure there is sufficient space for a porcelain crown to fit over the tooth. This procedure requires a great deal of skill and precision to ensure a successful result. The porcelain crown must fit perfectly to prevent further decay and gum disease. This crown will also restore the patients bite, prevent shifting of the teeth and must look good. After the preparation is completed, an impression of the area is taken to be sent to the laboratory. At the laboratory the lab technician will fabricate a crown to the dentist's specifications. The dentist will then place a 'temporary crown' on the tooth to protect the preparation, allow you to function on the tooth, keep the adjacent and opposing teeth from moving and allow you to smile while your porcelain crown is being fabricated.

At the second appointment, the crown is bonded or cemented to your natural tooth. Your new crown should look natural and feel comfortable in your mouth. It is vital that you take care of the crowned tooth. The margins are areas that are susceptible to decay and must be kept clean. If you take care of your crowns they can last 5 to 15 years or even longer.

Crowns are not used as frequently in cosmetic dentistry as they once were because of more conservative procedures like veneers, bonding, and bleaching. However, if your front teeth have been severely damaged by decay or have large fillings in them or perhaps they are rotated or crooked and require the extra strength that a crown could provide you may be a candidate for a crown. Dentists who have experience in cosmetic dentistry understand the benefits of using the most conservative treatment possible to achieve the desired results and can advise you of the benefits of each.

    The State of Dental Bridges

    The Connecticut Bridge

The Connecticut Bridge (left), which was developed by Stamford dentist Peter Dantini Jr., differs from traditional dental bridges such as the Maryland Bridge (right) in that it has no external metal anchors.

The Connecticut Bridge's supporting metal is internal. The bridge's composite anchors slip into inlay preparations in the flanking teeth and are bonded over, making the bridge virtually undetectable and unlikely to become detached, according to Dantini. The external metal anchors of the Maryland Bridge are glued to the backs of the flanking teeth and not only are visible.

    THE CONNECTICUT BRIDGE

    Developed by

    PETER DANTINI, JR., DDS

How patients rate the Connecticut Bridge

" I rate my satisfaction with the Connecti-cut Bridge excellent, [it is] very comfort-able. I don't know that it's in my mouth." Cheryl Crohan
"The cost and time spent in preparation less than I expected. I rate the Connecticut Bridge excellent in fit and comfort. I wish I had come to Dr. Dantini sooner, previous bridge work is still not fitting properly and is uncomfortable when I chew."
    Joanne Marguy

    What is the CONNECTICUT BRIDGE?

The CONNECTICUT BRIDGE is an innovative esthetic bridge process perfected by Peter Dantini, Jr. D.D.S.

It falls between a Maryland Bridge and a traditional metal abutment bridge. Essentially, it is a metal reinforced composite restoration that bonds directly to tooth structure at a substantial cost savings over traditional porcelain fused to a metal bridge. This is for patients who want a better looking esthetic bridge with no metal exposure and less tooth loss.

Will my insurance cover the CONNECTICUT BRIDGE or any other procedures mentioned ?

We are happy to submit a pre-treatment estimate to your insurance carrier to determine what they will pay.

What are the benef ts of the CONNECTICUT BRIDGE?

    • It eliminates the need for a temporary bridge, reducing overall cost and time in the chair.

    • It bonds directly to abutting teeth, avoiding problems associated with cemented restorations.

    • It preserves the natural form between tooth and gum, promoting periodontal health.

    • It delivers a more natural looking and feeling restoration.

Is the CONNECTICUT BRIDGE right for me?

If you have spaces between your teeth or are missing teeth and your remaining teeth are healthy, you are a good candidate for the CONNECTICUT BRIDGE.

How do I know if I need to have my teeth restored ?

    • missing teeth

    • spaces between your teeth

    • dissatisfaction with your smile

    • sensitivity to hot or cold

    • fractured or discolored teeth

What other options do I have for restoring my teeth?

If you have missing teeth you may be a candidate for the CONNECTICUT BRIDGE, other restorative work, or implants.

If you have spaces between your teeth you may want to discuss veneers, bonding or bridge work.

If you are not satisfied with your smile you can discuss your concerns with Dr. Dantini.

If your teeth are sensitive to hot or cold you may need crowns, composite restorations, or simply to brush your teeth differently.

If you have fractured or discolored teeth you may want to discuss bleaching, veneers, bonding or crown and bridge work.

How do I get started on my restorations?

If you are an active patient in this practice, you may receive a FREE dental evaluation to determine the best treatment option for you. At that time, Dr. Dantini will discuss the CONNECTICUT BRIDGE or any of the options in this brochure.

Read the readme.txt file on the Drivers Diskette for the latest information about this release. 2. For the best compatibility that you do not use real mode card and socket services. 3. Windows 95 does not detect devices correctly if a there is highscan keyword in the emm386 line of the config.sys file. 4. The new Netwave Control Panel applications on the utilities disk (v.2.51) are fully compatible with Windows 95. Follow the instructions in the CreditCard Netwave users manual. 5. The Netwave Connection Agent for NetWare client program, which is on the utilities disk, is not compatible with Windows 95. *************************************************************************** NOTE: These instructions are for those who: 1. Have NO PCMCIA cards installed yet. (If yes, then skip to Section III Driver Installation.) 2. Have installed Windows 95 from CD-ROM or 3. Have all Windows 95 setup files copied onto the local hard drive. *************************************************************************** SECTION I. Remove HIGHSCAN references in your config.sys: --------------------------------------------------------- 1. Click the Start button in the lower left corner of the screen. 2. Go to the item Programs (use the "p" key for fast access). 3. Choose the MS-DOS Prompt. 4. In the DOS box type "cd\" and press Enter. 5. Type "edit config.sys" and press Enter. 6. Locate the line that starts with: "device=c:\emm386.exe". If this line contains the word "highscan", delete the word "highscan". 7. Exit the editor by typing "ALT-F" and then "ALT-S" to save and "ALT-F" then "ALT-X" to exit. 8. Exit the DOS box by typing "EXIT" and press Enter. SECTION II. Setting the PCMCIA control panel for use: ----------------------------------------------------- 1. Click the Start button in the lower left corner of the screen. 2. Choose the menu item: Settings. 3. Choose the menu item: Control Panel. 4. Choose the "PC Card (PCMCIA)" icon (By double clicking on it). 5. One of two dialog boxes will appear: A. A dialog box titled "PC Card (PCMCIA) Properties": In this case the 32-bit PCMCIA support is already installed. Close the box and move on to Section III Driver Installation. B. A dialog box titled "Welcome to the PC Card (PCMCIA) Wizard": In this case move on to Step 6. 6. The dialog box "Welcome to the PC Card (PCMCIA) Wizard" will ask the following question: "Are you using a PC card (networking card, CD-ROM connected to a SCSI card, etc.) to install windows?" The default answer is "no". Select "no" and click the "next" button. 7. The dialog box "PC Card (PCMCIA) Wizard" will now appear. It reads as follows: "Windows did not find any existing real mode PC card drivers. Either you did not have any, or you have drivers that Windows couldn't detect." It will ask you "Do you want to review your system files and select real-mode PC card drivers so Windows can disable them?" The default answer is No. Select "no" and click the "next" button. Perform the following three steps (A, B, C): A. A new dialog box appears that reads: "Windows has selected the known PC Card drivers in your config.sys file. Make sure that the correct drivers are selected, or make any changes. "When you click Next, Windows will disable the selected PC card drivers in your config.sys file." The recommended option at this point is to let Windows 95 automatically find the drivers for you. To do this click the Next button 3 times. This lets Windows 95 automatically modify the following files: CONFIG.SYS, AUTOEXEC.BAT, and SYSTEM.INI. You may choose to override the choices made by Windows 95 and select the drivers manually. This option is recommended for experienced users only. B. This is the next to last dialog box for the wizard. It reads as follows: "You have finished the PC Card Wizard. To enable 32-bit support, click Finish, and then restart your computer for the changes to take effect." Click on the finish button. C. Restart your computer making sure to POWER DOWN. SECTION III. Driver Installation --------------------------------- 1. After completing Section II and Windows 95 is up and running again, insert the Xircom CreditCard Netwave Adapter (CNW) into the PCMCIA slot. 2. Windows 95 detects the CreditCard Netwave adapter, and displays a dialog box. Select "Have Disk". 3. Windows 95 now displays a dialog box asking for the directory "A:\". Insert the Netwave Drivers Disk and press Enter. 4. If Windows 95 asks for the Windows 95 CD-ROM, then enter the path to the Windows 95 setup files. 5. Windows 95 will now ask you to restart. Choose "no" and go to Section IV Netwave Configuration. SECTION IV. Netwave Configuration ---------------------------------- 1. Click the Start button in the lower left corner of the screen. 2. Choose the menu item: Settings. 3. Choose the menu item: Control Panel. 4. Choose the "Network" icon (by double clicking on it). 5. Select the "Advanced" tab and confirm that the Netwave Domain and the Scramble Key values are equal to the same values that will used in the Netwave Access Point (NWAP/E). The default Netwave Domain setting is 100. The default Scramble Key setting is "not present". 8. After setting Netwave configurations click "OK". Windows 95 will ask you to restart. Choose yes. When Windows 95 restarts, Netwave will be operational. Look for a green link integrity light on the CNW adapter indicating a connection with the NWAP/E. Refer to the CreditCard Netwave Adapter user manual for further information on the use of the adapter. SECTION V. Netwave Access Point Configuration ---------------------------------------------- The APMGR.EXE program is located on the Netwave Access Point Utility Diskette. This utility, which is a DOS application, is not fully compatible when used within Windows 95. This will be supported in a future release. APMGR.EXE provides identification data, configuration options, network usage information, and an upgrade procedure for Access Points installed on wire-based networks. APMGR can only be run from a wired workstation connected to the Ethernet network. Please see the NWAP/E user manual for detailed instructions. To use APMGR.EXE with Windows 95: 1. Start Windows 95 in Command Prompt mode. (Press F8 during startup.) 2. Initialize the network adapter, loading the software in the following order: 1) lsl.com 2) 3)ipxodi.com 3. Using this option can cause a machine to crash if applications are still using IPX/SPX. The IPX protocol has already been loaded. The LSL is not loaded. Please load the LSL then IPXODI. The loaded LSL is too old. LSL.COM must be 1.20 or later. Cannot find an IPX protocol to unload. Cannot unload IPXODI because another program has been loaded above it. Unload the other program or programs and try again. IPXODI cannot be unloaded because the installed IPXODI is a different version than this IPXODI module. IPXODI cannot be unloaded because interrupt 0x%X is owned by another program. Unload the other program then unload IPXODI. A network adapter driver must be loaded before IPXODI.COM can be loaded. IPX could not find a board to bind to. Please specify a board in the NET.CFG file by adding a "BIND" entry to the "PROTOCOL IPX" section and specify the protocol ID IPX should use for that board by adding a "PROTOCOL IPX id frametype" entry to the board's "LINK DRIVER" section. IPX cannot bind to board "%u" because a IPX protocol ID for the "%s" frame type has not been registered with the LSL. Please register an ID by adding a "PROTOCOL IPX id %s" entry to the "LINK DRIVER %s" NET.CFG section, replacing "id" with the appropriate protocol ID for IPX to use on this frame type. For the new ID to be recognized the %s LAN Driver must be reloaded. Maximum number of stacks already loaded. Either unload an existing stack or increase the maximum by adding a "MAX STACKS" entry to the "LINK SUPPORT" section in the NET.CFG file. Attempt to register an IPX Protocol ID failed. Increase the maximum number of stacks in the LSL.COM by adding a "MAX STACKS" entry to the "LINK SUPPORT" section in the NET.CFG file. An IPX protocol stack is already registered with the LSL. Invalid command line option was specified: "%s". Missing or invalid value for "%s" parameter was specified on line %u of the configuration file. Entry was ignored. Missing or invalid ON/OFF value for "%s" parameter was specified on line %u of the configuration file. Entry was ignored. Missing or invalid IPATCH values were specified on line %u of the configuration file. Entry was ignored. Specified board in "BIND" statement on line %u of the configuration file does not exist. Entry was ignored. Invalid "BIND" statement on line %u of the configuration file. Requires a board number (Example, BIND 2). Entry was ignored. Duplicate "BIND" statement on line %u of the configuration file. IPXODI cannot be bound to more than one board. Entry was ignored. An invalid entry was found on line %u of the configuration file. Entry "%s" ignored. Failed to locate configuration file "%s". NET.CFG will be used. Board %u has an invalid node address.
